Cochise College Athletics

Cochise College Athletics enjoys a solid reputation for quality competition and exceptional student athletes. Cochise recruits athletes from across the Southwest to compete in women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and men's and women's rodeo. Coaches regard academics as a high priority and encourage the development of both the person and the player. In addition to organized study programs, our athletes have the advantage of some of the best practice and playing weather in the country.

Some highlights include:

  • The 2007-2008 women’s soccer team qualified for the ACCAC playoffs for the ninth consecutive year and sent several sophomores on to four-year schools.
  • The 2006-2007 men's rodeo team was Grand Canyon Region reserve champion and included the men's all-around regional champion, regional champion saddle bronc rider, and regional champion bareback rider. The 2005-2006 women's team finished as Grand Canyon Region Reserve Champions.
  • The men's basketball team finished the 2007-2008 season 19-12 and fourth in the ACCAC. The team advanced to the NJCAA Region 1 play-offs for the 12th consecutive season. Three players signed NCAA Division 1 national letters of intent, and two signed NCAA Division 2 national letters of intent.
  • In 2005-2006, the women’s basketball team finished 15-15 overall and 13-9 in the conference. The team was the Region I runner up.
  • The men's baseball team finished 37-20 in 2008, advancing to the ACCAC playoffs for the fourth time in five years. In 2007, the team won the ACCAC championship with a 43-18 record and finished the season seventh in the nation. The Apaches won a school record 16 consecutive games, ranked as high as second in national polls, and reached the Region 1 championship series for the third time in four years.

The College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Athletics are housed at the Douglas Campus, a full-service campus that includes residence halls; a gymnasium with men’s and women’s locker rooms and full weight training and physical education labs; an outdoor swimming pool; well-manicured baseball and soccer playing fields; and full-service rodeo grounds with arenas, practice stock, a bucking machine and complete facilities for storing horses, feed and tack. An athletic trainer is on hand during practice and competition to care for injuries.

Many Cochise College athletes go on to compete at four-year institutions, and some have continued to play at the professional and semi-professional levels.
