Cochise College soccer has enjoyed much success since the program's inception in 1998. Last season, the team qualified for the ACCAC playoffs for the ninth consecutive year. This is the program's fourth year under Head Coach Chris Bermingham. Assistant Coach Mike Conners returns for his second season, and is joined by fellow Assistant Coach Rubin Nieto. Coach Nieto comes to the Apache program from St. Joseph College in Indiana where he coached and played Goalkeeper. The 2008 season holds much promise for the next couple of seasons. Joining four returning sophomores are more than ten incoming freshmen. The team begins with a home match and then plays an even layout of away and home games looking forward to a chance at the ACCAC playoffs again this season. The Cochise Soccer program recruits players from Cochise County, all over Arizona, other western states as well as internationally. The 2008 team includes players from California, Utah, Florida, Alaska, Washington and Arizona. Individual success amongst players is eclipsed only by what they go on to accomplish as former players once they have moved on. Apache players have been named as NJCAA All-Americans, NJCAA First-team All-region team players, as well as numerous ACCAC first and second teams. Four former Cochise players have also played in the Women's Professional Soccer League. Currently, former Cochise players can be found on the rosters of NCAA Division I, D-II, and NAIA schools such as Washburn, Grand Canyon, Eastern New Mexico, CSU - Pueblo, and Fort Lewis. Cochise College is an environment that fosters athletic, academic, and personal growth through the game of soccer. Players interested in furthering their soccer career while pursuing a college degree would do well to consider the Apache program. |
