Frequently Asked Questions

Are directions available for INFOnline/Web for Students?

What browser should be used with INFOnline/Web for Students?
Netscape 4.5 or higher, or Internet Explorer 5.0, both with JavaScript and cookies enabled. A resolution of at least 1024 x 768 is recommended. Other browsers may work, but at a minimum they must support tables - html level 3 and SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

We have it on good authority that IE 5.5 has not been tested by SCT; thus it is not supported. There are numerous reports on Banner Lists that it does not work. SCT confirms that the IE 5.5 Beta version will definitely not work with Banner Web.

Why must cookies be enabled?
Banner web uses cookies for security checks each time a web menu, procedure, or frameset is loaded. A cookie is a piece of data that a web application creates and sends to the browser. The cookies set by SCT web applications are stored only in the browser's cache - they are not written to a file on the computer's hard drive. They are destroyed when the user closes the browser.

What do I use as my PIN?
Students enrolled at Cochise College within the last two years were automatically assigned a PIN. If you are new to Cochise College, or returning after a break of two or more years in enrollment, an advisor/counselor will set your PIN. If you have questions about your PIN, contact the Student Development Centers at (520) 417-4038 (Douglas Campus) or (520) 515-5488 (Sierra Vista Campus) for more information.

I forgot my PIN. What do I do?
Contact one of our Student Development Centers. Those numbers are (520) 417-4038 (Douglas Campus) or (520) 515-5488 (Sierra Vista Campus).

Why do I have to enter my PIN number twice?
According to the software vendor, this is required due to the way security is implemented in the system.

Why do I keep getting this "breakin attempt detected" message?
Banner web generates a random web ID each time a menu, procedure or frameset is accessed and stores this information. A check is performed with each access to compare the value of the web ID with the value stored in the database. If they are not the same, it is assumed that a break-in attempt has occurred and a message will be displayed indicating the user is required to log in again.

What is a "CRN" and why is it important? Why can't you just use the course number and section?
CRN stands for "Course Request Number." It is a unique number assigned to each class section offered for a particular term. This number is used by Banner to identify a class. This number is necessary to register on the web if a course is not selected from a list.

What does "R" mean in the days listing on the schedule of classes?  The "R" means Thursday.

How do I print my schedule and fee assessment?
Use the print option on your browser. Print in landscape mode for best results. You can only view your fee assessment when registration is available, but the same information should also be available under "Account Summary" on the Student Records Information Menu.

It's after midnight and the system isn't working. What's wrong?
The system is taken down for file maintenance at midnight each night and not available again until approximately 6 a.m.

A class I need is full/not offered when I need it/has zero seats/etc. Can you fix this?
The people who operate this system (and receive email comments) do not have any control over these issues and cannot fix these types of problems. Each academic department makes their own decisions about what classes to offer, when they are taught, etc. The best thing to do is to talk to the academic department that teaches the class you are interested in and find out if they can help you.

Why do I get a screen that says I must enter my alternate PIN? What is an alternate PIN?
In an effort to ensure that all degree-seeking students are advised prior to registering for classes via the web, students who met certain advising criteria were assigned an alternate PIN (a second PIN). If, after logging in, you are required to provide the alternate PIN, you MUST contact an advisor/counselor at (520) 417-4038 (Douglas Campus) or (520) 515-5488 (Sierra Vista Campus). Once you have been advised, the aternate PIN will be removed, and you will be allowed to register via the web. NOTE: Alternate PINs will be assigned each term based on advising criteria.

Why aren't my fees showing when I view my account balance after registering?
Most likely, once you registered, you didn't "complete" your registration by clicking on the "Complete Registration" link. To fix this, log in to the student information system. Select "Student Services & Financial Aid" and then "Registration." Find and click on the link to "Complete Registration." You will now be able to view all charges.
