Students at Cochise College now have access to an exciting new scholarship opportunity that will help cover the cost of fine and digital media art classes and expose them to the inner workings of an operating art museum.

 

Beginning this semester, the Artemizia Foundation Art Scholarship will provide assistance to Cochise College students with demonstrated artistic potential, as evaluated by the college art faculty. "Art has the power to transform lives and communities. Through the Artemizia Foundation Art Scholarship, we are honored to support the next generation of creative visionaries at Cochise College,” said Sloane Bouchever, Artemizia Foundation founder and museum owner.

 

Applications for the current semester are being accepted through Feb. 28, 2025 via Scholarship Universe, a platform managed by the Cochise College Financial Aid Office. Scholarship Universe provides access to hundreds of internal and external funding opportunities. A link to Scholarship Universe can be found by searching “scholarships” at Cochise.edu.

 

Students do not need to be art majors to qualify for the Artemizia Foundation Art Scholarship and may be enrolled in as few as one fine or digital media art course per semester. Applicants must submit a few paragraphs about why taking art or digital media arts courses is important to them and explain their goal in pursuing the arts, what steps they will take to reach it, and how receipt of the scholarship will help attain that goal. A letter from an art or digital media arts faculty member is also required, and up to six images of works that showcase the applicant’s talent can be uploaded into the Scholarship Universe platform.

 

“We are honored to partner with the Artemizia Foundation Museum on this endeavor that will nurture talent in our students, allow our faculty to celebrate their work and accomplishments, and bring creativity and beauty to our communities,” said Cochise College Dean of Liberal Arts Angela Garcia.

 

Scholarship recipients may be invited to participate behind the scenes in Artemizia Foundation activities, offering students the chance to learn, for example, how to prepare a professional, museum-quality art exhibit, and to understand the business of art.

 

“The creation of the Artemizia Foundation Art Scholarship endowment cements Artemizia Foundation’s legacy as a leader providing opportunities in the local art community,” said Denise Hoyos, executive director of the Cochise College Foundation, which will manage the endowment. “This scholarship reflects Artemizia’s passion not just for the arts, but for artists and their potential to flourish.”

 

Bouchever, a native New Yorker who moved to Bisbee in 1990, founded the Artemizia Foundation contemporary, graffiti and street art museum and gallery in 2019. Its name honors 17^th-century trailblazer and artist Artemisia Gentileschi, who is known for filling her work with images of empowered women, a rare and revolutionary act for her time. By exhibiting a dynamic collection of influential contemporary, graffiti and street artists from around the world, Artemizia Foundation seeks to provide lasting opportunities for everyone to engage with and be inspired by art. The old Bisbee museum also admits at no charge Cochise College students and employees with a college identification card.
