Two students selected for Disney College Program

Article

Two Cochise College students have been selected to participate in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, during the Spring 2025 semester.

Valentina Soto Calzada, an elementary education major, and Byanka Ramirez, a psychology major, will begin an internship experience that combines professional development with hands-on work in one of the world's most renowned entertainment companies. Both students are part of the college’s TRiO program and are first-generation college students.

The Disney College Program is a highly competitive internship that offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in various roles, including hospitality, guest services, and entertainment. Participants engage in leadership training, networking events, and career-building workshops while working alongside industry professionals.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Soto Calzada. “I’m looking forward to working with diverse groups of people and learning skills that will help me in my future career as an educator.”

Ramirez added that the experience aligns with her academic and career goals. “As a psychology major, I’m passionate about understanding human behavior, and this program will allow me to apply what I’ve learned in real-world settings,” she said.

The selection process for the Disney College Program is rigorous. “Students undergo an extensive application and interview process, where they are evaluated based on their academic achievements, communication skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment,” said Emily Tinoco, academic/ career advisor in the TRiO program. “Only a small percentage of applicants nationwide are accepted into the program.”

Both students began the internship working in guest services and operations while also participating in Disney’s professional development sessions. Their involvement in the program underscores the value of experiential learning and its role in complementing traditional academic coursework.

“This opportunity is a significant achievement for Valentina and Byanka. As a first gen student their selection highlights their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their personal and professional growth,” said Tinoco. “Their participation in the Disney College Program reflects the impact of higher education and the TRiO program in opening doors for students from all backgrounds.”
