Cochise Newsroom
Cochise College welcomes aspiring writers and authors to the annual Creative Writing Celebration on April 4, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at its Sierra Vista Campus. The Celebration event brings published writers in several genres, such as poetry, novels, creative nonfiction, juvenile fiction, and screenwriting, to present hands-on workshops to writers from the community.
This year, New York Times bestselling author Mishka Shubaly will facilitate his Building
the World of a Story workshop. Known for The Long Run & Other True Stories, Shubaly
has taught a summer nonfiction writing workshop at Yale University for the last ten
years. The workshop will focus on helping attendees tell their story, including learning
how to immerse a reader in the world of their story, how to make characters appear
fresh and new, and other important skills.
The Creative Writing Celebration will also recognize and honor the winners of this year’s Writing Contest with an awards ceremony. The winners in each category will be presented with their prize and celebrated for their accomplishments.
“We are excited to host this year’s author and support our local writing community,” said Creative Writing Celebration co-director Shelby Litwicki. “It is important to highlight our incredible talent here in Cochise County, and we are honored that Mishka Shubaly will share his expertise with our students and the community.”
Tickets costs $20, with an option to attend in person or via Zoom. Zoom registration is free for Cochise College students. To register to attend the Creative Writing Celebration or for more information, visit the college's website at www.cochise.edu/cwc.
