What does it take to become a professional pilot? Cochise College is inviting students, families and community members to find out firsthand during its Aviation Open House on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Douglas Campus.

 

From 9 a.m. to noon, visitors can step inside the college’s aviation facilities, meet aviation faculty and students, try flight simulators, tour the campus and learn how professional pilot training can turn an interest in flying into a career.

 

For some visitors, the experience can even include getting off the ground. Introductory flights will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Space is limited, and advance reservations are required. The open house will take place at the college’s aviation facilities in Building 1800 on the north side of the Douglas Campus, 4190 W. Highway 80.

 

The facility gives aviation students access to classrooms, flight training resources, an observation area and the college’s runway as they develop the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to pursue careers as professional pilots.

 

Throughout the morning, visitors can experience flight simulators and talk with the people who teach and train Cochise College aviation students. At 10 a.m., the college will present “Your Path to FlyCochise,” an opportunity for students and families to learn more about aviation training, the student experience and the steps involved in preparing for a professional flying career.

 

At 11 a.m., visitors can put their aviation skills and decision-making to the test during “The Big Gamble,” an interactive team challenge. Participants will work alongside aviation students and instructors as they rotate through aviation-themed stations designed to offer a closer look at the skills, communication and problem-solving involved in becoming a pilot.

 

The event is open to the public, students as well as families and community members who want to learn more about aviation and the training available in Douglas.
