Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research at Cochise College

Students have the unique opportunity to engage in scientific inquiry through research in the field and in the lab at Cochise College. This enables them to gain the skill sets necessary for success in professional science fields, including experimental design, data collection, field and lab methods, and data analysis. Opportunities are provided to present at regional and national conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals with direct mentoring by faculty.

San Pedro River Research

The San Pedro River serves as an important migration route for birds as well as a habitat corridor for many other animals. Besides the many species of winged animals, around 60 species of mammals are found in or rely on riparian areas.

Archaeology Research

People have been living in the Southwest for at least 13,000 years. Cochise County is home to many sites associated with the earliest known southwestern cultural tradition, the Clovis people who hunted extinct megafauna. These people include the Hohokam, Mogollon, and Apache.

The San Pedro River and surrounding areas is a biodiverse area with convergence of four major deserts and the presence of mountain ranges scattered throughout the semi-arid landscape called “Sky Islands.”
