Overview
Cochise College partners with Phoenix Trucking Driving School for this program. Students interested in this program should be aware of the special admissions requirements and follow the Getting Started Steps below.
The Commercial Driver License (CDL) program is designed to prepare the student to become an entry-level commercial truck driver. It provides the basic foundation of Arizona state CDL law, safe operating practices, vehicle control, and general driving.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate competency in basic driving maneuvers, including backing skills.
- Demonstrate the necessary level of driving proficiency in road conditions to obtain a Class A CDL.
- Identify safe operating practices when performing a pre-trip inspection and citing safety hazards while driving.
- Interpret and apply US Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations necessary to obtain a Class A CDL permit and license.
Admission Requirements
- Must have a valid, state‐issued driver’s license.
- Must have a recent negative drug screen.
- Must have a physical exam (specific to professional driving). Any vision, blood pressure, breathing, sleep apnea, or other medical issues must meet physician's standard and be waived by the physician prior to training.
- Must have a background check (background check must ensure that the applicant is employable).
- Must have an Arizona Motor Vehicle Division check.
- Must be 18 years of age.

Expand All +Visit the Phoenix Truck Driving School Website and complete their interest form. Someone from their office will contact you to begin the admission requirements. This will include a background check, driving record review, and drug/physical screenings.
While you are completing the admission requirements with Phoenix Truck Driving School, you can begin to secure funding, and start your application process with Cochise College.
Unfortunatley at this time, this class is not elegible for federal financial aid. Students may self-pay, employer-pay, Cochise College Payment Plan, or contact AZ@Work for financial assistance.
Please note, payment is due upon registration for the course and funding may time several weeks to secure so students should start this process as soon as possible.
Applying is FREE! There is no application Fee. An acceptance email and letter will be sent to you that will contain important information on how to get registered. Your college email account username and password instructions will be in the letter.
You will register for your class through the Student MyCochise Portal.
- Visit the class schedule webpage to find your class time and location. You will want to make a note of the CRN number in order to register for your course.
- Log into your MyCochise Student Portal Account. Click on the register link un Quick Access Links to begin registering for classes.
