Overview

Serve your community and help people in need with Cochise’s fire science program. Cochise College prepares students for a career in the fire and emergency services industry. Upon successful completion of FST 107, FST 108 and FST 109 you will have the skills needed to complete the Firefighter I and II certification exam.

As one of the top programs in Arizona, Cochise’s core courses include basic firefighter training and certification test preparation, fire apparatus and driver operator, firefighter fitness, and field experience in firefighting. The concentration is in applied learning with instructors who bring real-world experience into the classroom.

The program provides a pathway to both an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree and a certificate in Fire Science Technology.

Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:

  • Evaluate and apply current and emerging concepts and practices in Fire and Emergency Services.
  • Identify and effectively operate apparatus, equipment, and tools essential for successful fire department operations.
  • Apply effective communication while utilizing Incident Command/Incident Management skills to manage emergency incidents.
  • Identify construction systems and components that impact firefighter safety.
    Analyze ethical situations applicable to the fire science workplace.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to obtain the Firefighter I and II Certification form the State of Arizona through a rigorous testing process.


Admissions Requirements

FST 107 is held the second 8‐weeks in the fall semester; FST 108 is held the first 8‐weeks in the spring semester; FST 109 is held the second 8‐weeks in the spring semester. The Fire Science Certificate can be applied towards this degree.
